Hi, Just discovered this today (but haven't been having a chance to fly a lot).

Mavic 2 Pro.
iPhone Xs Max
App v 4.3.3

When launching the app, I can see that both the orientation radar and the map spin when I change my orientation, but as soon as the GPS lock (green) is achieved, the orientation is no longer picked up (the drone is correctly changing its orientation while flying, but neither the radar nor the map spin).

I tried this on an iPad Air 2 and it works fine.

Has any one else seen this?

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience that it may cause. I'm afraid that if the issue will not occur on your iPad Air 2, it might be that our application cannot work on the latest iPhone XS max as our team hasn't tested it as of the moment. Would it be possible if you could provide a short video of this so that we could check it on our end? You can use google drive or dropbox then provide the link here for further help. Thank you for the support.

Thanks Tony.  Here is the video (it is a little crude but it shows the issue)

Orientation Bug Video
At about 1:25 the satellite lock is established and the controller orientation no longer adjusts the display.

I have had this before on my ipad mini 4. Maybe try this...make sure the compass on your phone is calibrated and when you fire up the Mavic make sure you are outside away from any iron/tin roof.....and that goes for your phone/tablet as well. Start up controller first and then the Mavic AND wait until you see GPS enabled on the controller and then  plug in you phone/tablet and open up the Go App. Leave the App startup LAST.

Hi,

I think its normal behaviour what you see.

When connected ; the white mark on top remains always on top.
If you move your mob device you will see that the North marking points out to the North, thus moving to the left/right on the outer scale.

If you fly and you have the compass center - red arrow - white marking in one line; you are pointing your RC towards the drone where its flying.

If not connected the red arrow point to the North marking and moves with your mob device.

If your red arrow is not showing the direction of your craft ; calibrate you compass on your mob device.
PS
Red arrow > gets its heading info form your drone
Outer scale compass > gets its info from your mob device compass.

If both compasses are ok than the heading drone is set to the outerscale relative to the north sign (wich is showing north as your mob device is compass-wise ok)

see https://forum.dji.com/thread-144696-1-1.html

cheers
JJB

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Let's let DJI take a look.

It isn't the correct behavior; you can see white mark always remain on top, but as the device rotates, the N moves, which is showing the relative direction of North with respect to the phone.  And I do know that the phone compass is correct, because the N is correctly oriented towards north.  I also see the orientation of the drone is correct once the drone is connected (about 90 degrees of N) and both are rotating with respect to the orientation of the phone.  This is good up until the GPS lock happens, at which point the N indication stops moving.  The video doesn't show that if I reorient the drone that the red arrow would move, and having flown earlier, I know the compass and gps of the drone is correct.  The only thing that isn't correct is that the display is no longer updating based on the phone compass.

oke, would be nice to see a screen recording when flying to understand better what your are saying.

Just seeing if DJI was able to reproduce this behavior.

Doesn't happen on 11" iPad Pro.  Deleting the app and reinstalling on iPhone gives same result

OMG OMG OMG.

I FOUND THE ISSUE.

Under Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> System Services (very bottom) there is a setting switch for Compass Calibration. This is used to allow the compass to calibrate based on the device location.  Turning this off will prevent the radar from updating the device compass once GPS is locked.  Presumably, there is some code path change that DJI is using under that mode.  Turning this on will fix the issue.  I've tested on my phone and iPad. I don't see any reason why one wouldn't want the setting on in any case.  Very happy.
