Product Description
Navigate with Garmin-caliber GPS data on the mobile device of your choice. GLO brings you the best of both worlds by combining GPS/GLONASS receivers with Bluetooth® technology so you can enjoy precise position information on your iPad, iPhone or Android device.
The Accuracy of GPS + GLONASS
GLO can receive position information from both the GPS and GLONASS satellite constellations, allowing it to connect to up to 24 more satellites than devices that rely on GPS alone. This allows GLO to lock on to satellites approximately 20 percent faster and remain connected even at high speed. What’s more, GLO updates its position information at 10 times per second — that’s up to 10 times more often than the GPS receivers in many mobile devices.
Set It Up and Go
Using Bluetooth technology, GLO wirelessly pairs to your mobile device. Just set GLO within range of your mobile device, and in moments you’ll be receiving GLO’s position data. It has up to 12 hours of battery life to keep your position on long trips, and charging GLO between uses is easy with the included USB cable or optional 12/24 volt cigarette lighter adapter. The optional friction mount keeps the receiver safe on your dashboard and in full view of satellites.

UPDATE: several weeks after I got this, iOS updated to 8.3 which had a problem pairing with bluetooth GPS devices, including this one, so it didn't work. Some time later on a forum I saw a hint to update my GLO software (firmware?) to 2.7. I did this at the Garmin update site (which is none too easy to find) and now it works fine again. Garmin should post some prominent notices about this, but they haven't.
MEANWHILE, while my GLO wasn't working, I bought a Bad Elf GPS with a lightning connector plug-in. That too works very well. It did not quite fit my iPad Air 2 with the Apple smart case (the hard case), so I either had to pull off a corner of the case or (eventually) get an extender cable. The GLO and Bad Elf seem to be equally good at reception. The GLO is a little slicker because it doesn't hang off the iPad, and the Bad Elf is a bit simpler to use because it's right there and you won't forget to shut it off. I wish I knew which unit had a longer lasting battery, but I haven't been able to tell.
Once I got the thing talking to one of my applications, it worked very well, so it does as advertised in a small, fairly inexpensive package.
A couple of weak points when using the device. First, it is designed for Apple and Android products. While it can transmit serial data via bluetooth (the USB cable is ONLY for charging), finding an applications on the windows platform will be a challenge. I was able to get data at 9600-1-1-N through one program and through a dumb terminal, but not through my normal charting programs which usually take serial data right from the USB connection.
I could not even get it to pair with my Windows Mobile 7.5 on my Titan II phone (it says incompatible device). this isn't the Glo's fault per se, but it would be nice to see some development for use with the windows phone application.
The only real weakness on the device itself is the on/off button. It is easy to press accidently so you can run it down without knowing it if you store it incorrectly.
My big issue is with the pathetic web support and instruction manual. I had a hard time finding out what catagory this thing even fit in. I had to call tech support just to register the device which shouldn't happen. Also, the "technical specs" in the instruction manual are rather sad since it talked about the GPS radio but nothing about the interface settings. I guess they just assume that you mate it with your ipad and everything will be fine from there. Unfortunately for mariners like myself, we need to dig a bit deeper to use non-standard applications.
It's a great idea and probably wonderful for those who are land or air based and have the dedicated apps to use, but if you want to go a bit off the reservation, you might have some troubles.

2) prezzo
3) batteria proprietaria
Garmin GLO Pregi:
1) Supportata a pieno da Android in parte da IOS
2) Dimensioni
3) prezzo
4) Batteria Standard (tipo quelle dei vecchi nokia)
Difetti:
Io sono soddisfatto e do 5 stelle.
The bluetooth link (+ using BlueTooth GPS on Android) works well, and the ability to pinpoint my location in less than a second once connected is a huge improvment. I also like the improved accuracy, and using it to feed a dashboard and GPS tracker when flying makes for some geeky in-flight entertainment (perfectly OK with a phone in flight-mode).
As a carry-case, the 'iGadgitz Black EVA Carrying Hard Case Cover for Olympus DS-40' works well - it doesn't come with one. For a self-contained extended-power solution to stick in a backpack, it fits nicely alongside a 'Power Bank Anker Astro E1' in the ever-useful 'Duronic HDC2 Portable Hard Drive Case'.
The only downside so far is that this uses a mini USB port, rather than a micro connector, so you'll need an adapter or carry the supplied mini USB cable.
