1. The sliver screws that attach the circuit board to the controller can be tightened and loosened with a very tiny flat blade screwdriver if you don't have the proper tool. This is important because there is no tool in the package to help you do this.
2. Your controller may beep loudly and flash a red light when you first turn it back on after the installation, like mine did. this just means the controller needs to be re-calibrated. Hook the controller to your DJI app and run the controller calibration
3. Some range extenders also require you to replace the factory board, so you may have to choose between FPV googles and range extension depending on what products you buy.
I have since purchased the Nvidia Shield tablet for my P3P ($199) and it has an HDMI output socket which gives a better picture and mirrors the actual screen on the tablet or phone. The HDMI output from the controller doesn't give you the same data.so IMO it's easier to go back and forth from the tablet to my Headplay (or large monitor) goggles since everything is mirrored exactly. See below for the problems I had trying to use computer monitors and a 24" LED TV with the output from controller No problems at all with the Nvidia HTMI out.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I tried 5 computer monitors and one TV. The HDMI out is a mini socket not a standard HDMI type so you need to order an adapter or a new cable here on Amazon. Three of the monitors only had a DVI type input sockets I so used an adapter to HDMI. None of them worked. Of the other 2 with HDMI inputs only a newer monitor worked.
Worked on the TV and a 24' Asus computer monitor but on both the monitor and the TV there were thin black vertical lines (many of them) which while the picture was viewable it definitely was a disappointment. I tried different cables so it wasn't the cable. The picture was somewhat better on the TV. Two out of 6 monitors isn't very good. According to some on a Phantom forum it might be a timing problem on some monitors. I guess I'll shop around and find a better 18" or larger monitor so others can enjoy the same view I'm seeing on my Note 4.
I purchased this to FPV using some $250 HDMI goggles here on Amazon, and I use the FPV setup occasionally. But i find myself going back to look at my iPad for a clearer view. It might just be the goggles i purchased arnt the best closed experience but like i said i just use the board occasionally. I feel it would of been a better idea for DJI to integrate into the controller from the get go and not have us purchase extra hardware. Installation was not too bad but then again i am pretty skilled with ribbon cables, I can see how others might ruin their controllers thinking this is a harmless upgrade.
The board does get a little warm after a full flight especially when connected but not too bad.
I purchased this for $110 then the price dropped to $99 a few days later, didn't want to deal with the hassle of return but i think the seller should of contact me and refunded me the difference like i have been contacted before from Amazon, especially that it dropped a few days later.
Overall I'm glad i did the upgrade, it will add resale value to my drone when I'm ready to move on to Phantom 4.
